Lord of the Flies

Can't help being amused at how days follow a theme. This week's theme is surely the Beast. Peter Brook's 1963 film based on William Golding's 'Lord of the Flies'* was screened here yesterday. I read the book inches past my thirteenth birthday. Was deeply terrified of turning pages towards the end of the book, but unable to put it away. Ralph of the conch, Jack of the knife, Piggy and his 'assmar', the beautiful Simon, the hunters and the ones-awaiting-rescue, the downward spiral of an island idyll. Different reasons now, but the story remains special.

*Reference to the Hebrew name Beelzebub (בעל זבוב, Ba'al-zvuv, "god of the fly", "host of the fly", "Lord of Flies"), a name used as a synonym for Satan. (Wikipedia)
