Le soleil, c'est le roi, mais la lune est la reine!
The sun is the powerful ruler during the day. But, it can light only one half of the globe and, therefore, the importance of Moon, although illuminated by sun itself, but is like a yogi as it reflects all the light back to the planets that do not have light of their own. And its effect on waters in the seas is well known and human form also as it has 78% water, also 'lune' happens to be the root of the word lunatic!)... and its effect together with sun is particularly seen reflected in the tides during new moon or full moon days...And thus it is not surprising that ancient Hindus, where Indu in Sanskrit means Moon, adopted lunar cycle for determining time, to understand the vagaries of Nature!
Suparna, ie, Vishnu's vehicle could be visualised to convey, as the most evolved among birds that rule the 'sky', Garud, our galaxy as the model of our infinite void, or universe that continues to grow, ie, expand indefinitely since time immemorial...
In so far as the present day knowledge is concerned (scientific advancement having started a few centuries ago only from scratch)... 'We' the human race has come to know earth to some extent only, while on the other hand knowing it as one of the members of our solar system, where Sun appears like a powerful Emperor, a ruler of the concerned heavenly bodies, (like Garud as the most evolved bird with keen eye-sight rules over the 'sky'), the planets, as it alone has the requisite energy to sustain them for billions of years: at present believably for 4.6 billion years and likely to continue indefinitely wrt the balance Hydrogen gas in its core, although earth's health itself and, therefore ours too, doesn't seem to be too good, although individually some of us might possess robust health...and History reminds us of Great Inundations / Fires, ie, Pralaya to Hindus, or even setting in of Ice Age, whereby life on earth freezes, to restart once again when ice thaws...thus the Hindu concept of human form as a model of the universe such that Brahma's Day (our 12 hours' as the average duration of one day) is indicted as nearly the present age of earth (immortal 'Gangadhar Shiva' as model of the unborn and unending universe)/ solar system (Mahashiva)!
